Last Saturday, Ryan lead an amazing team of Moorpark High School volunteers who helped bag over 8,300lbs of juicy grapefruits in just 2 hours at Burney’s Ranch which was then shared between Catholic Charities of Moorpark & MEND Poverty in Pacoima! A huge thanks to all the volunteers who came out and to our incredibly generous & gracious host Mr. Burney… Go Team Moorpark!!!
Last Sunday’s pick in Moorpark resulted in 452 pounds of lemons and grapefruit. 100% donated to SOVA!!! Great job Food Forward volunteers.
We do have a few spots left for the following Sept pick:
Sunday 9/27 – San Fernando Valley (exact location TBD) @10am
October calendar will be announced shortly! Stay tuned for an exciting month of fruit picking 🙂
Email: firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to join us on a pick or help us spread the word! We look forward to seeing you on a pick very soon and thank you for your continued support.
If you thought Day 1 of FRUITSTOCK was exciting, Day 2 was insane! With the social activities and partying behind us, we set out to try and match the tremendous effort of Day 1 and we did.
Over 6,000 lbs of fresh free grapefruits were added to the 5,000 lbs of oranges and in case you think it was all work and no play, you haven’t yet been made aware of the incredible graciousness of our host Chuck Berney. He not only shared with us a bounty of his orchard but took all of our volunteers out for a wonderful lunch.
This day marked the debut of the FOOD FORWARD “production line” movement of the grapefruits from the trees to the truck. I’m not saying there aren’t kinks to be worked out, but what a way to improve on our productivity. A big thanks to all of our tremendous volunteers who helped in extending the excitement generated in Day 1 to the finale in day 2.
Describing the day would not be complete without a special thanks to Fred Summers at SOVA for all his hard work and his family who helped us make this day the success it was!

We are happy to say that we are almost full for FRUITSTOCK this coming Saturday in Montecito – a lush 150 tree orchard awaits us!
We are so happy in fact, that in the spirit of Woodstock, we have added a second day to our end of summer fruit harvesting celebration. No mud or hippies, well maybe a few hippies….
The second day, Sunday the 30th will be in Moorpark on a 40+ acre citrus & avocado ranch. We will be meeting here for a few hours on Sunday morning (10AM to noonish) to help bag an insane grapefruit crop which has been donated to us – the trick being we must bag everything we can take Sunday or else it will be trashed. Yes, trashed! Last weekend 4 of us bagged over 4000 lbs (no picking required!) here – all which went to feed LA’s hungry.
If you can join us at this special event – about 30 minutes from the Valley in beautiful farm country, we’d love to have you. Kids welcome! Please EM to confirm and get address/details.
Otherwise, we have about 4-5 spots left for Saturday (light lunch provided by FF, and potluck BBQ following the pick)
Hope to see you this weekend!
