THE BIG PICK 2 IS ON!!!

The Food Forward Team is very pleased to announce that in partnership with SOVA Community Food & Resource Program and CSUN Hillel, THE BIG PICK 2 will be held SUNDAY JUNE 28^th, 2009 9-4 pm at Cal State University Northridge in their old growth orchard of over 300 orange trees.

 

Come join this inspired and growing new group of urban gleaners, who in over 20 picks in our first four months together have harvested over 14,000 pounds of FREE FRESH FRUIT for the hungry! Haven’t heard of THE BIG PICK? – A large group of volunteers of all stripes convenes on a massive orange orchard and picks fruit for the day. 100% going DIRECTLY to hungry families across Los Angeles. It’s that simple.

 Following the same format of our hugely successful first BIG PICK in March, we are inviting you to volunteer for either the 9 am-12 pm shift or 1 pm-4 pm shift.  At noon all participants are invited to join a potluck picnic in the orchard. This time, our 1-4pm afternoon session will be open to children and families. (Every child under 13 MUST be accompanied by their OWN parent – sorry no exceptions.)

 SPACE IS EXTREMELY LIMITED! (Our last big pick had a waiting list)

To hold your spot for June 28^th, please email info@foodforward.org  or call Food Forward at 818-530-4125 – leaving your name, email, age, and phone/cell number. We will hold a maximum of 2 spots per RSVP, and call you to confirm your spot(s) the week of the event and give you exact location/parking directions. Equipment and refreshments will be supplied, but please bring gloves, sunscreen, sturdy shoes and a dish for the potluck picnic lunch.  (Should you need community service hours, they are available through SOVA, A Project of Jewish Family Services.)

 If you can’t join us for BIG PICK 2 but believe in Food Forward’s mission of helping eradicate urban hunger while reconnecting Southern California communities, please help support the work we are doing by sponsoring a picker at one of three levels:

 FRUIT LOOP – $25 – buys one fruit picker + gloves

 JUICY FRUIT – $50 – buys one fruit picker/gloves + donor receives a Food Forward T-shirt

 FRUITANTHROPIST – $250 – all the above + acknowledgment on our website.
